Contouring at McGowen Precision Barrels is done on state-of-the-art CNC equipment. We offer not only our standard McGowen contours, we also provide contours from Shilen, Douglas and Pac Nor as standard contours, along with contours that are standard for Remington and Savage. This means that if you are accustomed to using contours from one of the other companies, we will do them without tacking on an extra charge.
If you want a contour that is not shown on our list below, we can program the contour for you. The cost of this programming is $35.00, which is in addition to the standard contour price of $30.00. Barrels with contours that are not standard will require a non-refundable deposit prior to manufacturing. We do not incorporate integral sights into our contours, however we can provide boss sections for future machining.
Please note that diameter tolerances are held to +/- .005” with the exception of gas block journals on AR barrels.

We offer 2 basic contours, a “Sporter” contour and a “Target” contour. You can see by looking at the list below that many of the contours are basically the same, but there are some minor variations in the contours, such as the length of the chamber section of the barrel or the length of the transition between the chamber section and the radius bringing the diameter down smaller before the taper to the muzzle. An example would be a McGowen #1 vs a Douglas #1 contour. The “C” section of the Douglas is at 3″ instead of the 2.5″ that the McGowen contour has.
